But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. – Hebrews 11:6
God is real.
Where there is a Creation there must be a Creator. Where there is an effect there must be a cause. Where there is design there must be a designer. Romans 1:20 says “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse”.
Ok, so He exists. But what kind of God is He?
I think we have some very wrong ideas about what God is like. Probably, most of us get our ideas about God by thinking of Him like a parent. That’s too bad, because some parents are grumpy, unapproachable, unavailable, critical, abusive, uncaring, disappointing – and we tend to see Him in those ways. We blame Him for everything wrong in the world, when the blame belongs to us.
The problem is that we create images of God based on earthly things that we understand in earthly ways, with earthly minds. So, it seems that we create Him in man’s image instead of the other way around.
But if we read the Bible, specifically the gospels, about Jesus and study His experience and response to life in ministry, death, and resurrection, we will learn what God is like. “Christ is exactly like God, who cannot be seen. He is the first-born Son, superior to all creation”. – Colossians 1:15. King James says “He is the image of the invisible God”.
Tonight I’m praying for God to reveal Himself to us through His creation, in visions and dreams, and through His Word…
…and The Word is Jesus Christ. -John 1:1-14
great post: Hebrews 11:6 one of my best ever verses
