Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Poor in Spirit” means accepting the fact that there is not a whole lot in life that I really control. “Poor in Spirit” also means knowing that’s good thing because I don’t do a very good job with the few things in life that I actually can control. In fact, when it comes to controlling things, I have a tendency to do everything completely wrong. On my own I’m hopeless; and being “Poor in Spirit” means I know that, on my own, I’m helpless to change.
But thank God for His Mercy and Grace in Jesus Christ. Because of Him, I’m never alone. I know that I can trust Him to handle the things I can’t control. I also know I can depend on Him for strength in handling the things I can control. He holds the future, and the future looks pretty bright.
Blessed are the Poor in Spirit.
